Description
Southern Brown Sugar Bread with Pecans is a rich, buttery, and sweet bread that combines the deep flavor of brown sugar with crunchy pecans. Perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert, this bread is moist, flavorful, and easy to bake.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/4 cup butter, melted
4 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla extract (Simply Organic or Watkins Clear Vanilla Flavor)
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13 baking dish with parchment paper and coat with nonstick spray.
2. In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine both sugars and melted butter on low speed.
3. Add eggs, vanilla, and salt, then increase speed to medium and mix for 1 minute until smooth.
4. Reduce speed to low and gently fold in self-rising flour until just combined.
5. Fold in chopped pecans until evenly distributed.
6. Transfer batter to prepared pan and spread evenly.
7. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until center is set and edges are lightly golden.
8. Cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
If self-rising flour is unavailable, mix 1 cup all-purpose flour with 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt.
Allow bread to cool completely before slicing to prevent crumbling.
Toast pecans for extra flavor and sprinkle a few on top for a crunchy crust.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
