Description

A hearty one pan meal that pairs smoky beef sausage with tender sautéed cabbage and sweet onion for an easy weeknight dinner. This Sausage and Cabbage Skillet combines simple pantry ingredients with bright apple cider vinegar to balance richness creating a comforting dish that comes together quickly and stores well for leftovers.

Ingredients

1 lb Midamar Beef Smoked Sausage

1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil divided

1 medium onion chopped

3 garlic cloves minced

1 medium head cabbage cored and chopped into one inch pieces about 2 lbs

3/4 teaspoon kosher salt plus more to taste

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 teaspoon Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar

Instructions

Slice the sausage lengthwise then cut into half inch slices so each piece browns evenly

Heat a large deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat add a portion of the olive oil then add the sausage and brown until well caramelized on both sides

Transfer the browned sausage to a plate reduce the heat to medium low and add the remaining olive oil along with the chopped onion cook until the onion is softened and translucent

Stir in the minced garlic then add the chopped cabbage kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper toss everything to combine

Cover the skillet and allow the cabbage to wilt stirring occasionally until it becomes tender and slightly sweet from cooking

Stir in the Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar return the sausage to the skillet and stir to combine cover briefly so the flavors meld and the sausage is heated through

Taste and adjust seasoning with more kosher salt if needed serve warm and enjoy

Notes

This recipe also works well with turkey sausage if you prefer poultry flavors

Beef sausage brands that hold their texture and deliver smoky flavor work best for a classic result

If the skillet seems dry add a tablespoon or two of broth to help the cabbage soften without changing the overall flavor

Leftovers keep well and the flavors often improve after resting in the refrigerator
