Notes

Best melting cheeses are sharp cheddar for flavor and mozzarella for stretch

Choose beef sausage with a clean ingredient list for a balanced smoky note

You can prep potatoes and sausage ahead and add cheese just before the final bake

Freeze the casserole base without cheese add fresh cheese when reheating to preserve texture

Let the dish rest briefly after baking so slices hold together when serving
