Description

This Brown Sugar Bread with Vanilla Icing is a soft, spiced loaf topped with creamy, alcohol-free vanilla icing. Perfect for breakfast, snack, or dessert, this bread is moist, flavorful, and easy to make.

Ingredients

3 Cups Flour

1 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda

3/4 teaspoon Salt

2 teaspoons Cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon Ground Cloves

1/2 Cup Browned Butter (reserve 3 tablespoons for icing)

1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil

1 Cup Brown Sugar

1/2 Cup Sugar

3 Large Eggs, whisked

1 3/4 Cups Apple Butter or Applesauce

1/2 Cup Sour Cream (Daisy or Horizon Organic)

Brown Sugar Icing:

3/4 Cup Light Brown Sugar, packed

6 Tablespoons Whole Milk

3 Tablespoons Browned Butter (reserved)

1/2 teaspoon Alcohol-Free Vanilla Flavor (Simply Organic or Watkins Clear)

2 Cups Powdered Sugar

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray two 8.5×4″ loaf pans with nonstick spray.

2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a large bowl.

3. In a separate bowl, combine browned butter, vegetable oil, brown sugar, sugar, whisked eggs, apple butter, and sour cream.

4. Fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients using a wooden spoon until just combined.

5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 60 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.

6. Let bread cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

7. For the icing, combine light brown sugar, milk, browned butter, and vanilla in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil while whisking.

8. Remove from heat and sift in powdered sugar. Stir until smooth and thickened.

9. Pour icing over slightly warm bread, coating evenly. Let set for 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

To brown butter, melt evenly cut pieces over medium heat until foam appears and brown flecks form. Remove immediately to avoid burning. Reserve 3 tablespoons for icing.

Use room-temperature eggs for smoother batter. Avoid overmixing to keep bread soft and airy.

Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.

Slice frozen bread after thawing and reheat briefly for a fresh-baked experience.
