Description

A fast and flavorful 30 minute beef and broccoli dish made with tender beef strips, crisp broccoli florets, and a smooth stir fry sauce. This stovetop recipe brings together balanced seasoning and quick cooking techniques for a satisfying meal served over warm rice.

Ingredients

Flank steak thinly sliced into bite size strips

Olive oil

Fresh broccoli florets

Sesame seeds optional

Fresh ginger grated

Garlic grated

Hot water

San J Tamari Lite or Kikkoman Tamari Gluten Free or Omena Organics Soy Sauce

Light brown sugar

Corn starch

Black pepper

Sesame oil

White rice for serving

Instructions

Start cooking white rice so it is ready when the stir fry is done. Chill the steak briefly to make slicing easier then cut it thinly against the grain.

Mix hot water soy sauce brown sugar corn starch ginger garlic and black pepper in a bowl until smooth and set aside.

Heat oil in a large skillet and add the broccoli. Sauté until bright green and crisp tender then remove. Add a splash of water if you prefer softer broccoli.

Add more oil to the skillet and increase the heat. Add the beef slices in a single layer and cook until browned and just cooked through.

Pour the stir fry sauce into the skillet and lower the heat. Let it simmer until thickened while stirring gently.

Return the broccoli to the pan and fold everything together. Add a small splash of water if you want a lighter sauce.

Serve immediately over warm white rice.

Notes

Flank steak gives tender results but top sirloin top round or tri tip also work well when sliced thin. Cut against the grain for the best texture.

Fresh broccoli provides better color and crispness than frozen. Additional vegetables such as snap peas carrots or bell peppers can be added.

If the sauce becomes too thick add a bit of water. If it becomes too thin let it simmer slightly longer until smooth.

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days. Reheat in a skillet for the best texture and loosen the sauce with a splash of water if needed.
