A rich and creamy Southern-style sweet potato pie recipe made from scratch with simple ingredients and warm spices. Perfect for holidays or anytime comfort dessert.
Ingredients
1 (1 pound) sweet potato, with skin
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
Instructions
1. Place sweet potato in a pot, cover with water, and boil until tender (40–50 mins).
2. Remove skin under cold water and mash the flesh in a bowl.
3. Add butter and mix with electric mixer until smooth.
4. Add sugar, milk, eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla. Mix until well blended.
5. Pour filling into unbaked pie crust.
6. Bake at 350°F for 55–60 minutes, or until a knife inserted comes out clean.
7. Let cool before slicing and serving.
Notes
The pie may puff up during baking and settle as it cools.
Best served chilled or at room temperature.
Store in the fridge up to 4 days. Freeze for longer storage.
